Bus Service Information

A new evening bus service was launched on 6 April 2010.

A Partnership of Stratford District Council, Warwickshire County Council, Johnson's Excelbus and Stagecoach has launched a pilot scheme to promote bus travel in the evenings. Customers are now able to purchase a return ticket for £2 to travel from anywhere in Stratford District to either Stratford or Leamington after 1800.

Additional journeys will also be provided to complement the existing evening network of services:-X20 1950 Stratford to Birmingham
2105 Birmingham to Stratford
2325 Stratford to Henley

23 2220 Stratford to Shipston On Stour via Lower Quinton
(continues to Tredington, Newbold & Alderminster as service 50)

50 2255 Shipston to Stratford

The network of evening services offer access to a large number of rural communities and the new journeys bring both Henley and Shipston up to the level of service required in the public transport revenue support criteria.

The project helps to meet aspirations of young people to give access to leisure facilities at affordable prices and will also encourage adults to be able to have a drink and leave cars at home.

The project will be marketed to ensure that the experiment is successful. We will ensure that relevant roadside publicity is produced for bus stops along the route. Details of the new bus service will also appear on the WCC web site in due course.

Funding for the experiment is being provided by Stratford District Council and it is hoped that if it proves popular it will be self financing after 12 months and other areas of the County could be considered.

If you wish to discuss this matter with an officer please contact either Dave Matthews on 01926 412760 (or via e-mail using davematthews@warwickshire.gov.uk) or Andy Stokes on 01926 412112 (or via e-mail using andrewstokes@warwickshire.gov.uk).

Changes to Local Bus Routes

Services 63/64 operate between Leamington Spa and Rugby, serving the town of Southam and several villages along the route. Starting from 7 September 2009, the service will have a change to its route. It will be no longer use Railway Terrace and Murray Road to serve Rugby Rail Station, apart from journeys during peak hours. During the main part of the day, the service will, after serving the Clifton Road shops, travel along Lower Hillmorton Road, turn left into Eastlands Road, left into Clifton Road to return to the stop by Lawrence Sheriff School.

Brief summary details are available on the public transport pages on the County Council website under Forthcoming & Recent Service Changes. There will be a link from the WCC site to the Stagecoach website displaying the new timetable once the operator has posted this on its site. Timetable cases on the route maintained by either WCC or Stagecoach will be amended just before the revised service starts. Timetable leaflets produced by Stagecoach the operator will be made available in due course through our usual distribution outlets, eg libraries, tourist information centres, council offices and shops/post offices in key rural areas.

If you have any queries regarding the above bus service please contact Helen Garratt on 01926 418620 (or by e-mail using helengarratt@warwickshire.gov.uk)

Bus Pass Changes

From 1 April 2009 bus passes for the over 60's are no longer valid on:
* coaches on which more than half of the seats can be booked in advance (usually long distance coaches)
* park and ride services (although Johnsons who run the Stratford Park and Ride say that they will continue to accept the passes for the moment)
* buses intended primarily for tourists (e.g. open topped buses).

This change has come about following complaints from local authorities at the seaside and other tourist centres that their bus services were being inundated by those with free passes. The implementation of these changes will be at the discretion of each authority or operator so you may come across different interpretations in different parts of the country, such as the Johnsons decision above.
